The Coot has done it, as figures show Crash Bandicoot’s latest re-iteration come out on top of this week’s charts across all platforms. Now that is impressive for a genetically modified marsupial, hell bent on collecting apples….

So what does this mean for developers Vicarious Visions? Well it mean their hard work has really paid off and people are more than ready to take a trip down memory lane and bring in the newest generation of players to fully appreciate how hard games used to be. Toys for Bob should also get a mention for working on the upcoming Spyro remaster, so keep an eye out for them in all upcoming redevelopments. We already know from PSX 2017 that a MediEvil remake is in the works so it will be interesting to see who is working on that.

It also bodes well for remasters in general, and yes you may remember a heavily criticized article I wrote about the incessant nature of remasters, and how I feel they aren’t necessary, well I guess it is time to eat my proverbial hat on this one as consumers seem to give us the answer… Yes we want them!

So I think the only real question left to ask (other than how do you get past the Ice Bridge level on the third island of the first Bandicoot?) is, can the Coot remain king or will the infamous sheep eating dragon be able to claim the throne of most loved childhood game character? Only time will tell….
