Persona 5’s protagonist, Joker, will be the first DLC character in the season pass for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which releases today, December 7.
There were many “leaks” and a lot of speculation about Nintendo announcing a DLC character for Smash Ultimate at The Game Awards, but no one seemed to predict Joker. However, his representation in Smash does make sense when you realise that the next entry in the long-running Shin Megami Tensei series, Shin Megami Tensei V, is a Nintendo Switch exclusive. Persona was originally under the Shin Megami Tensei brand before losing that part of the title and becoming just “Persona.”
Persona 5 was released in April of 2017 outside of Japan to critical acclaim and is widely regarded as one of the best RPGs ever made.
Joker will be the first character of five in the season pass to be joining the battle in smash in 2019. His challenger pack will come with him as a playable fighter, a stage based on Persona 5 and music from the game’s soundtrack.
The only other DLC character announced to be joining the massive 74 character roster in Smash Ultimate so far is Piranha Plant from the Mario series, and he is not part of the season pass and will be a character that can be obtained for free for a limited time. His release date is still unknown.
The season pass for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available for purchase now for $24.99.
