Cyberpunk 2077

The news that quite a lot of us expected, and even more than that feared, has finally come to pass, with the announcement that Cyberpunk 2077 will be delayed until September of this year. Originally slated for an April release, this news won’t come as a particular shock to those who’ve followed games of this scale before (if indeed there have been any of this scale to date).

The full statement did, however, come with the caveat that the game is for all intents and purposes complete and fully working, with the reason for the delay cited as the studio’s best endeavours to release the perfect product to the consumer.

As someone who, like everyone else with a vague interest in video games, is deeply invested in the quality of this title, I actually don’t hate that fact that this has happened. Realistically no game will ever be perfect, particularly one that promises to be as dense as this, but taking some extra time to ensure that everything is working as well as possible fills me with joy. As an example, when I first played Red Dead Redemption 2 on my Xbox, I was floored. When the game made it’s move to PC shortly afterwards, it was nothing short of a buggy experience for me and one that has attracted mixed reviews from the audience at large.

If the extra 5 months gives CD Projekt the time they need, then frankly we should let them have it.
