“The Rapture has happened. You didn’t make the cut,” and now you have to battle it out in the post-apocalypse to be the last one left alive in Cyanide & Happiness’ take on the popular battle royale genre of video games.
The game is called Rapture Rejects, and it’s a 2D, top down isometric perspective game, created by Galvanic and tinyBuild, applying the dark humor of the web comics to a new medium. 50 players, which were those left behind after the Rapture in the C&H universe, are dropped into an arena with the intent of being the last one standing, as is often the goal of battle royale games.
According to the official Rapture Rejects website, the game’s objective is that “when God leaves the worst of us to fight for ourselves, all that’s left to do is kill each other. Scavenge for weapons and kill every other person on Earth, to impress the Almighty enough to let you into Heaven.”
The characters in-game are known as a “Rejects”, and players are able to customize their character in the game’s main menu, though customizations are limited as the game is in alpha testing. According to the game’s wiki page, there are a variety of weapons for your character to choose from once dropped onto the 2D arena, such as the Tromblunderbuss (pump-action shotgun), the Reversed Pencil Sharpener (SMG), or even the F-bomb. You can play solo, or team up with friends to take on other teams of “rejects”, battling for that last spot into Heaven. You can see a little bit of gameplay with these weapons in action in the Rapture Rejects official trailer here.
The Early Access version of Rapture Rejects will be available to play on Steam on November 29, and developers are aiming for a full game release in 2020. Check back with GameRVW in December to see our review of the C&H battle royale game.
