Since its release in 2016, the episodic Hitman title has received largely positive feedback and now it looks as though a new Hitman game could be on the immediate horizon. This is after an image, which has since been removed, was posted to the Warner Bros Games Live (WBGL) website. The supposed leak comes in the wake of an announcement that Warner Bros. have entered into a publishing agreement with IO Interactive, long time developer of the series, as well as other notable titles including Kane and Lynch.
Fans of the series had been wondering what was next for the game, after developer IO Interactive parted ways with Square Enix and acquired the rights to the assassination series in the middle of 2017. It now looks as though what many felt would be an inevitable return to the series is just that.
Presently this development must be officially recognised as a rumour rather than a confirmation, as it only came to light once it was discovered embedded in a media link, which was supposedly connected to an upcoming racing game to be announced in the next couple of days. That being said, there have been a number of clues and hits in recent days, and longer ago, that a new Hitman game is imminent. Most obviously, the official twitter account for the series teased at something new for Agent 47, to be clarified two days from now on June 7th.
The IP is an extremely valuable one and a sequel to 2016’s episodic iteration makes a lot of sense at this juncture. Whether this new title will take on the same form as its predecessor, or something entirely new, is unclear, but we should be provided with more details in the coming days.
