In a move that will make cash-strapped gamers quite happy, Ubisoft today announced that the first episode of Assassin Creed: Odyssey’s Fate of Atlantis DLC will be free until September 1st. This news comes in addition to the discounting of the game’s Season Pass. A follow up to 2017’s Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Odyssey is a prequel taking place in 431 BC in Ancient Greece. Players control a mercenary of noble birth whose gender and temperament is player-determined, as they explore Ancient Greece while navigating the wars, politics, and intrigue of the powers-that-be. Along the way, players meet real-life historical figures and explore realistic recreations of locations in Greece in an open-world map. The Fate of Atlantis expansion is comprised of three different episodes; the first of these, Fields of Elysium, is the one that is currently available for no charge.
Players will journey to the mythical Greek afterlife known as Elysium and discover the mysteries that lie within. In a departure from past titles in the series, Odyssey features a large amount of elements and mechanics found in role-playing games. These include a player character whose personality and gender are player-determined, as well as branching dialogue trees that allow players to choose the outcome of their story.
These elements complement gameplay mechanics such as leveling through XP and choosing specialized skills, as well as a combat system relying on looted gear and enemy/player levels. Many of these mechanics debuted in Origins. The DLC episodes are no different in this matter, allowing players to craft their own story and play the game on their own terms, just as in the base game.
If you find Fields of Elysium to be right up your alley, then you will be pleased to know that the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Season Pass, which includes all the DLC released for the game, is 50% until September 1st as well. As a bonus, the Season Pass also includes Assassin’s Creed III Remastered, an updated version of the American-Revolution themed title. There is no better time to jump into Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s post-launch content than right now.
