With Just Cause 4 on the horizon, and after a leak which we managed to break before every major video game news outlet, Avalanche Studios is working full tilt to make sure that what they put out is the absolute best it can be. The third iteration in the series was the best yet, and staying with the winning formula, whilst adding new features and improvements will surely be the way to make sure the fourth overtakes its predecessor. That being said, the developer is not entirely concentrated on their flagship series as, in a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, the CEO of the studio, Pim Holfve, confirmed that they have no less than six games on the go.
We already know that Rage 2 and Generation Zero will be joining Rico on the shelves but the confirmation of another three, as yet unnamed, releases really is something. During the interview, Holfve had this to say on juggling so many projects at once:
“Historically, we’ve been really bad at running multiple projects. It made it easier to have two locations [Stockholm and New York], but we’ve been very, very heavy on the top – a few people trying to run the projects simultaneously. Now we push down the leadership to executive producers and senior producers, who run the projects as their own businesses – we give them a bigger mandate. It’s working really well for us.
“We have six projects [running concurrently] right now, of different sizes. Four or five years ago that wouldn’t have been possible. We’re focusing a lot on growing leaders.”
Avalanche Studios had stood (nearly) alone as one of the only truly independent studios but, with the recent announcement that they had been purchased by Nordisk Film, one of the oldest film companies in the world, they can no longer be truly described as such. However, with multiple assurances that this will only allow them to make more gains whilst maintaining the same level of quality, we shall have to wait and see if they can follow through on their promises.
Just Cause 4 will release on 4th December 2018 and is available to pre-order via our Green Man Gaming affiliate link.
