It’s been over 20 years since Crash Bandicoot: Warped, but after the remasters of the N. Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fuelled renewed appetites in the series, we finally have a brand new Crash Bandicoot game. Dubbed “It’s About Time“, it’s set for release on October 2nd for PS4 and Xbox One.
Picking up from the events of Warped, the game appears to keep the same style and feel as the first 3 titles, but with a few new tricks. The gameplay footage shows that in certain segments Crash will have access to new masks, giving him (or Coco) new abilities. We can see the use of one mask to slow down time in order to make jumping sections easier, and one to manipulate gravity in order to run on walls or ceilings. There is also some brief gameplay footage of the player as Neo Cortex.
Unlike the first 3 games, this one isn’t being made by Naughty Dog, but by Toys for Bob, who helped develop the N. Sane Trilogy as well as CTR Nitro-fuelled.
“This is a true sequel to the original three games developed by Naughty Dog. We want to go back to the source, where it all began the high point in the whole series both critically and commercially, and stem off of that.” – Paul Yan, Toys for Bob, interview with GamesRadar
There is no information available about a PC or Nintendo Switch release date, other than Activision confirming that they are “still evaluating additional platforms for a future date”.
