E3 is drawing to a close and this year has been filled with a staggering amount of new titles. One game at the forefront of E3 is Cyberpunk 2077, and the game’s developers, CD Projekt Red, are facing some backlash.
CD Projekt Red are largely known for the successful Witcher trilogy, most notably the third instalment. The game is known for it’s massive open world, beautiful graphics, and it’s compelling protagonist that you control in third-person. It’s safe to say that many fans assumed Cyberpunk 2077 would follow the same style of play. Well, it won’t.
At E3 it was announced that Cyberpunk will in fact be in first-person, which has many fans worried as the developer have also promised a fully customisable character, down to the colour of their hair. So what’s the point of all this customisation if the player won’t actually see their character? Well worry not, developers of CD Projekt Red have offered reassurances to anxious fans.
In an interview, the developer explained that the player will be able to see their flashy, customised character in cutscenes and, also, the camera will be in third-person when driving a vehicle. They then go on to defend the game’s first person camera, stating that it was needed for the player to feel closer to the action, and to truly achieve an immersive experience. In addition to this, the player will be able to see their character in the inventory panel, which is a familiar concept for Witcher fans.
CD Projekt Red are coming in to Cyberpunk 2077 off the back of Witcher 3‘s success, so there’s no shortage of hype, and personally I think the developer are one of few companies capable of creating a rich first person experience while retaining RPG features. If you’re just itching to play it, you can check out the new trailer here for your fix. It looks amazing!
Cyberpunk 2077 has no official release date, but rumours suggest it will be before June 2019.
