After several years of radio silence from Ghost Story Games, it appears that we have an unofficial development update on their first title. A job listing on a Take-Two careers page stated that the game is “in later stages of production.” While the listing has since been edited to omit this phrase, it still has a passage that claims that the unannounced game “is in the immersive sim genre”.
Ghost Story Games was formed after Irrational Games laid off most of its employees in 2013 and then rebranded in 2017. Irrational was behind a host of critically acclaimed titles, from the seminal immersive sim System Shock 2 to the evocative first-person shooter Bioshock. After the release of their final game, Bioshock Infinite, the studio was reduced to fifteen members. At the time, the team’s creative director Ken Levine stated that the change was partially due to his desire to create “a smaller team with a flatter structure and a more direct relationship with gamers”. The new job listing implies that the studio has grown to around 35 members. The studio is still under the umbrella of publisher Take-Two.
Around a year ago, it was announced by Take-Two that the next Bioshock game is in development. The project is being helmed by Cloud Chamber Studios, a new team that is made up of developers who previously worked on the series at Irrational Games and 2K Marin.
