Final Fantasy XV’s multiplayer component, titled “Comrades,” will get its own release on December 12, and will not require players to own Final Fantasy XV to play. The game will be a download for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and will be priced at $9.99.
The full title of the standalone game will be Final Fantasy XV Multiplayer: Comrades
The multiplayer portion tied to the main game of Final Fantasy XV will be discontinued on December 13 in Japan and around the same time everywhere else. Players will have to download this standalone edition in order to continue playing, though it will be free of charge to people who already own the Comrades DLC.
Additionally, the Comrades mode will get new content with the standalone release, including costumes, missions and bosses.
The PC version of Final Fantasy XV will not be getting the standalone Comrades download, since the expansion was already included out of the box.
The season pass of Final Fantasy XV will also be discounted on December 12, reducing the price to $14.99.
Earlier this year, Square Enix announced during PAX East that season two DLC for Final Fantasy XV would be developed. This included more story content in the form of “episodes” for various characters. This season of DLC was effectively canceled in November as director Hajime Tabata left the company, leaving only one piece of DLC in development.
The final piece of DLC for Final Fantasy XV, titled Episode Ardyn, is still expected to be released in March 2019.
