COVID-19 is currently causing major effects worldwide, and unfortunately, this disruption has also affected the gaming industry. An announcement on the Playstation Twitter page has confirmed that the Last Of Us Part 2 has been delayed once again, this time with no new confirmed release date.
“Update: SIE has made the difficult decision to delay the launch of The Last of Us Part II and Marvel’s Iron Man VR until further notice. Logistically, the global crisis is preventing us from providing the launch experience our players deserve.”
A simultaneous announcement was also made on the Naughty Dog Twitter page with a silver lining, stating that “The good news is, we’re nearly done with the development of The Last of Us Part II.” This is the second delay to hit the title, with an announcement late last year that the original February 22nd release date would be pushed back until May. The Last of Us Part 2 is also not the only major title to get delayed this year, with Cyberpunk 2077 having being pushed back to a September release date.
There is currently no release date for the title, and the full extent of the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak are yet to be determined. Games companies often skip the summer period for releasing major titles, as it’s often seen as a reduced period of demand. Now that the title has missed it’s May release date, and with Cyberpunk set to launch on September 17th, it’s possible we may not see the title launch until Autumn.
