A teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated Life is Strange 2 has hit the web. A sequel to 2015’s Life is Strange, this next chapter in the series will focus on a new set of characters; it is unclear if the original protagonists, Max Caulfield (played by Hannah Telle) and Chloe Price (Ashly Burch) will make any sort of appearance. According to this teaser, a full reveal of the game will take place on August 20th.
The new teaser is a short 56-second affair, but does give us a few juicy tidbits to digest. The video feed of a police cruiser’s dashcam is the only angle. From this vantage point, astute viewers can see a coastal town, with architecture and lighting that is quite similar to the first game’s setting, Arcadia Bay. The fictional hamlet in the Pacific Northwest may in fact be the continued location of the franchise. The trailer also ends on an intriguing note; a police officer notices an altercation occurring offscreen, and goes to intervene. Seconds later, he is blown across the street by some unknown telekinetic force, which knocks him on the ground and flips his cruiser over. It seems our new protagonist (or an antagonist) will have a set of powers similar to Max’s time manipulation ability from the first game that allow them to navigate the game world and solve puzzles.
Other than that, not much is known about the game. If the player character does indeed have the ability to project telekinetic blasts, then given the offensive nature of their powers, we might see a few combat scenes in the sequel. Max was limited to rewinding time and assisting other characters if a fight went wrong in the original game. However, it is unlikely to stray too far from the original game’s formula of puzzle solving and story choices. After all, Life is Strange’s legacy is that of a moving, emotional narrative, and not an action-adventure game.
