Earlier today at the Sony State of Play conference, Capcom announced a remake of the horror classic Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. While this announcement was somewhat expected due to circulating rumors, the release date still comes as something of a surprise. The game has been announced for April 3, 2020, just fifteen months after the release of the stellar remake of the previous game in the series. It will be released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Originally released in 1999 for the Playstation, Resident Evil 3 takes place in perpetuity with Resident Evil 2 and follows Jill Valentine as she contests with the zombie outbreak in Racoon City. However, she has more to worry about than just shambling corpses, as Nemesis, a relentless behemoth is always one step behind her. The remake will use the RE Engine, which was utilized in Resident Evil 7, Devil May Cry 5, and in the RE2 remake.
In addition, it was revealed that the competitive four versus one mode Resident Evil Resistance will be included with the remake. This mode was unveiled at TGS back in September and looks to deliver an asymmetrical multiplayer experience. Between RE7, Monster Hunter World, and Devil May Cry 5, Capcom looks to continue their recent hot streak with a reimagining of a beloved title. And considering the success of the Resident Evil 2 remake, it’s hard not to be excited about the potential extension of this survival horror renaissance.
