Head of The Coalition, Rod Fergusson, has confirmed that Gears of War 5 is happening and it’s bigger and better than ever. In the mission that was shown at the conference, our protagonist, Kate, is comforted by a returning Fenix. There were already a number of leaks that this game would be happening, via a Walmart posting, and some cryptic tweets from Ice-T, but this was our first look at what the 5th release in the main series will be like.

The dialogue looks good, and the storytelling fairly complete, but until we are shown more it will be difficult to judge where this falls when compared to the previous releases. The graphics have certainly received an update, with the games landscapes looking particularly stunning. There’s also a pretty meaty looking enemy I can’t wait to get violently involved with. We did also get a look at some of the combat and, well, it looks decidedly like Gears of War. If the noisy crowd reaction was anything to go by, this could well be one to get on its release.
