Ghost of Tsushima’s gameplay trailer had the daunting task of following Naughty Dog’s latest effort into the arena of eternal judgement. Sony have started strongly and, again, they have chosen to open with somebody playing live music. We jump into some pretty amazing looking grasslands before riding off to take on some fairly aggressive meatheads (side note: it’s just about the best horse animation I have ever seen). The combat looks bloody and suitably fluid, and the dialogue interactions are well-voiced.
The soldier’s have kidnapped a monk friend of our protagonist and are torturing him so the rescue mission is very much on, and frankly, it just screams old-school Tenchu. I understand that you don’t actually play a ninja, in the truest sense of the word, but the way the player-character traverses the level is reminiscent of the famous franchise. The one vs one dueling is particularly good, with the cinematic scenery and lighting further adding to the game’s appeal.
The Sony conference is now well underway so make sure to tune into the coverage here, and don’t forget to follow the website for all the latest updates throughout E3.
