Today Sony announced the release date and price point for the Playstation 5. The system will be launching on November 12th of this year in the US, Japan, Mexico, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea, and on November 19th for the rest of the world. Consumers will have a choice between two different models, the $399.99 Digital Edition that lacks a 4K disk-drive and the standard $499.99 version.
Sony’s Playstation 5 Showcase event also featured some game reveals and new trailers. We got an announcement for Final Fantasy XVI, which will have a Playstation 5 exclusive console launch. It takes place in a fantasy setting and will be the first mainline Final Fantasy game since 2016. The heavily rumored Harry Potter RPG from Avalanche Studios, Hogwarts Legacy, was finally officially revealed. We also got a teaser for the next God of War game, which will be coming to the PS5 in 2021.
Some other highlights included a fairly-breathtaking demo for the Demon’s Souls remake, an extended peek at Arkane Studio’s stylish shooter Deathloop, and an eerie glimpse at the gothic horror of Resident Evil VIII: Village. There were also trailers for Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Oddworld: Soulstorm, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, Fortnite, and a special edition of Devil May Cry 5. In addition, the Playstation Plus Collection was announced, a selection of PS4 games that will be available for Playstation Plus subscribers on PlayStation 5.
Today’s conference comes just a day after Sony denied reports that the Playstation 5 manufacturing pipeline has suffered from production issues which will limit the number of consoles at launch.
