Going into Nintendo’s E3 conference, pretty much everyone was expecting a return to the most famous brawler of all. Well, now they have, showcasing the game’s updated look for the Nintendo Switch and it did not disappoint. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is coming, as many expected it to, and its bigger and better than ever.
Players will be able to use Nintendo Gamecube controllers on this latest version, drawing great cheers from the gathered YouTube audience, as they reminisce about having to put a plaster in the centre of their thumbs to make the blisters hurt a bit less. Anyone that was worried there might be a radical departure from the tried and tested formula doesn’t have to. It still looks great.
The big news is that the game will feature every character that has appeared in the series to date, including Snake and Wolf, who makes a return to the franchise after 10 long years. The Switch has been a resounding success for Nintendo, gaining all of the necessary plaudits, without any of the negative coverage that the 3DS had handed to it, and the addition of Smash Bros. can only be a good thing. With a whole host of updated move sets and specials, it looks as though the only thing that remains from previous titles is the premise, as the visuals bring the game to the current generation of consoles.
