The battle between Sony and Microsoft for console supremacy kind of feels like one of those mythical wars from fantasy movies that has been going on for thousands of years, with neither able to fully kill the other because they’re both giant immortal behemoths. Just me? Anyway, at the moment Sony are the ones who look like they have the momentum, with a plethora of exclusives largely considered better than the titles pegged for release on the Xbox.
All that being said, it would not be entirely surprising to discover both sides engaging in at least a bit of petty nonsense (they definitely are). First noticed by Reddit user SirIsaacTheThird, the PlayStation advertisement for Destiny 2’s new Forsaken expansion features a strangely blurry controller. The reason for this is that it is very much an Xbox controller, something which is clearly wholly unacceptable to the head honchos at Sony.
It is slightly astonishing to me that the most elegant solution a multi-billion dollar company could come up with was to blur the pad out like it’s in witness protection, but hey, what do I know? The advert has now been removed from circulation on all PlayStation sites, but the original, in all of its Xbox-based glory is still very much up on the Bungie website, but time will tell if this absolutely massive PR disaster has any effect on the game’s ability to ship DLC packs.
With the announcement of Destiny 2’s new annual pass, the game is now a subscription based title, with the pass offering access to three further DLC’s. These DLC’s wont be full story-mode expansions, as Curse of Osiris and Warmind have been, but they do promise to bring with them a whole host of activities, exotics and holiday events that may well keep players interested in the game.
Destiny 2 is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC
